4 Cool Things You Probably Never Knew Your Android Phone Could Do

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies – Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival.

Check out the things that you can do with it:-

1. Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday.

Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock.

Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other ‘ remote ‘ for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk)…

2. Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#

Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery.

This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

3. Make your phone snappy with faster animations

One of the most common complaints about Android is “lagginess.” For whatever reason Google has never been able to get Android on the same buttery smooth level as iOS or even Windows Phone. In the last few versions they have made some serious improvements, but if you still feel like your phone is a little laggy there is a trick for speeding things up. Google has hidden some secret developer options inside the Settings. Inside the secret developer options is settings for animation and transition speed. Here’s how to speed things up.

– Open Settings > About phone
– Scroll down and tap on “Build number” 7 times
– Now go back to Settings and you should see new “Developer options”
– Adjust the window and transition animation scales to .5x or turn them off completely

4. Locate and wipe your lost phone

Losing your phone is one of the worst things that can happen. These devices contain sensitive information and private data. If your phone falls into the wrong hands it could put you in a world of trouble. There are apps you can download to help in the event of a lost phone, but in order for them to work you need to have them installed before something bad happens. Luckily there is a built-in way to find your lost phone and even wipe all of your personal data.

– Double-check to make sure Android Device Manager is installed
– Go to google.com/android/devicemanager
– Select your phone from the menu
– Now you can see the location, ring it, lock it, or erase it

Nigerian “Michael Jackson” Spotted At MTN Project Fame Auditions (Photos)

Meet Marvy Tiger or Nigeria’s own Michael Jackson as he prefers to be called. Tiger was the star attraction during the MTN Project Fame Auditions held recently in Abuja.

Marvy Tiger…sorry Nigerian Michael Jackson, was one of the thousands that thronged the venue for the auditions that held at the National Centre for Women Development, Abuja, to try their Luck in MTN Project Fame competition.

By his dressing style that was all glitz and in multi-colours, Tiger stood out as the star to look out for at the audition. Whether this was going to go south or wow everyone was all a matter of time would tell. And finally, the moment we all looked forward to came, with Tiger mounting the stage for his audition drill. Perhaps, as expected his performances was the height of the audition’s comic relief that stunned the judges.

His moon walk moves and breaking dance got everyone’s rib cracking. Indeed the coming of Marvy Tiger to audition in Abuja was more than the icing of the cake, it was the resurrection of Micheal Jackson. more photos below;

The beautiful wife of singer Paul Okoye, Anita took to her Instagram to reveal that she quit her 9-5 job earlier this year in order to embark on new personal projects.

“Changes. This quote resonates with me because, at the beginning of 2016, I found myself unfulfilled in my 9-5.” she writes.

“Life was a bit robotic, mundane, I felt limited. I never knew I would be an entrepreneur, but I knew I didn’t want to be sitting behind a desk all day.
The creative in me wanted some shine and I had to answer.

Quitting my job, was a huge risk, financially and psychologically.
I swapped my high heels & Blazers for sneakers and hard hats.
I have no regrets, no looking back. I’ve been taking it one day at a time, it’s not been easy, but I’m nearly ready to reveal my new projects.”

HUH? 55 Yr Old Yeni Kuti’s Fiance Fixes Their Wedding Date For 2036

55 year oldYeni Kuti, first daughter of late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti got an engagement ring from her architect lover on her last birthday which held weeks ago, The twist now is that the boyfriend has fixed the wedding date on Saturday, May 24th, 2036.

20 years from now.

See what she told Encomium below:

Has anything changed about you at 55?

I don’t eat as much as I would like to eat. I am afraid of getting fat. To me, I am fat. I don’t want to add more weight. It is only the eating aspect. I love food but I try to avoid it. I still eat all the things I like at the risk of getting extra fat. I ate rice and beans today. I will take fruits if I am hungry. I am trying to maintain a certain weight. I will really have to watch my diet if I want to get my desired weight. I must make sure I exercise and dance. You know that metabolic rate slows down with age, that is where I am now.

What are you most grateful for at 55?
I am grateful for good health. I am grateful that my daughter is married and settled. She is also happy. I am happy for my partner. I am happy for my siblings.

What more do you want from God?

I am a very grateful child of God. I don’t complain. We all wish for good things. We wish to go on holiday to Jamaica or Hawaii. If it comes, good. If it doesn’t, good. I would wish for some other things but God has done a lot for me, I cannot complain.

I can only continue to pray for good health. Everybody wants something more, but one shouldn’t make it a criteria for happiness. I am always grateful.

Why did you wait this long before falling in love?
I didn’t wait this long to fall in love. We have been together for a while.

Like how many years now?
Nine years now.

How does it feel to be in love?
It is a good feeling.

What attracted him to you?
He is a very nice person. He cares about people. He is a fine man and has a sense of humour.

Are you looking at settling down with him anytime soon?
We have fixed our wedding date.

Really?
Yes.

When, ma?
20 years from now. If we are still alive, we will send the IV out. Saturday, May 24, 2036, if we are alive. I am serious. We discussed it yesterday. I will send you the invitation.

Is it possible for you to tell us how you met?
I have known him for a long time even before we started dating.

How did your daughter take the news when you told her you were in love?

She was very happy for me. She didn’t ask to know further because she knows my thoughts about marriage. My own is not about marriage but about happiness. Some people are married but are not happy today and within a year, they are already divorced. So, what is the point. Happiness is more important than marriage. .

Can you tell us a bit about him?
He is hard working. He is an architect.

How 16 Year Old Homeless Secondary School Student Graduates Two Years Early With University Scholarship

Resilient Washington, DC resident, 16-year-old Destyni Tyree who lives in a homeless shelter with her mum recently overcame extraordinary odds to not only graduate from high school two years ahead of schedule with a 4.0 grade point average, but she also received an academic scholarship to college.

Destyni and her family were forced to make the shelter their home after her mother lost her job a few years ago, but the hard-working teenager refused to let her situation affect her. She said she used her unfortunate circumstances as motivation rather than letting it get her down.

Destyni said:

“I don’t want to live in a shelter when I get older”. “I want to better my life, so that gave me the drive to do what I want to do,” she told NBC 4 Washington.

With the outstanding support of her mother and the principal of her school, Destyni worked hard to meet and exceed her goal of graduating two years early.

Destyni plans to attend Potomac State University later this year, but is still saving up money for additional educational expenses not covered in her scholarship, like the cost of books.

Her mum said she is very proud of Destyni’s achievement.

5 Strong Reasons Why Post UTME Must Be Scrapped (See Here)

This is a Post that discuss the Disadvantages of Post UTME and why it should be Scrapped off.

Read below:-

In our time it was strictly JAMB , if you score high, the higher your chances. Though there was malpractice then, JAMB has improved today especially with Computer based testing introduction.

I have wards who passed through the PUME process, which is significantly different from our time, for example, now many schools do not invite second choice for their screening and this is at variance with JAMB procedure. I am also an insider of sorts in the PUME process, and I’ll use the Uniben scenario to give reasons why PUME is illegal and must be scrapped and defaulting schools prosecuted.

1. Post UME infringes on the sole power right of Jamb/UTME to give admissions

If you go through the JAMB act, it states that only the body has the right to conduct exams after charging fees, give undergraduate admissions, carryout placements in Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. The universities are only supposed to send their requirements and preferences. The only exception is Post graduate admissions. But today Universities charge another amount , sometimes higher than JAMB’s to conduct a parallel exam clearly defying the act, and give admissions using methods known to no one else. Uniben announced admission screening fee of 2000 and optional 1000 for past questions. But the reality is that, processing Uniben PUME/ ASE 2016 costs 3550. There is no option there, it just displays this amount and asks for MasterCard/Verve details.

2. Secondly, Post UME is not transparent, it is even more fraud prone than JAMB

CBT has greatly reduced fraud, eliminating text message answers, buying answers online and impersonation. We now have biometric check in and check out, and CBT even makes the exam easier to invigilate as candidates are forced to stare at their screens and nothing else. A bonus is the availability of system calculator which wasn’t totally available in the era of pencil test.

BUT Pume is not even standardized, no preparation syllabus, some schools purposely set questions from A-Level just to be wicked and reduce number of successful people, others are known for giving very little time. And at the end they just send admission notification without pasting any list publicly and denying some admission even after surpassing the JAMB cutoff.

3. Post UME introduces avenues for special candidates getting better courses

Special candidates refers to Royal father’s recommendees , governor’s candidates , VC’s candidates, staff children and state of origin waivers etc These sets of people would score less than others and must get admitted , in many cases get their course of choice.

In Uniben, to enter the college of Medicine, staff kids have their cutoff 10marks below regular cut off. So while a normal candidate aims for 70, they’ll aim for 60. After taking the number of staff kids they want, the rest is filled with merit and government/royal candidates. And they all wrote the same JAMB. And the non staff candidates who fall under 60 < x < 70 are pushed to pharmacy and Life Sciences.

That is one reason why they do not release cutoff before results, as they need to fit in their people first and adjust and that’s why majority of the post ume era medical graduates are children of doctors and professors; Not because Medicine runs in their veins but because corruption runs instead. There have also been reports of score upgrade in different schools including UNIBEN.

And That is what gives rise to fraudsters, result checkers and predators who take advantage of candidates giving them fake admission. And the school waits till final year exams before publishing lists of fake students, meanwhile they’ve been collecting school fees from 100L.

4. Post UME destroys the JAMB score

For instance , someone who scored 280 in JAMB would have his score divided by 8 giving 35 and this will be added to half the PUME score. Another person who sco

Post UTME Wahala:- UNILAG Is Waiting For FG’s Guideline To Decide The Mode Of Screening – VC

The Vice Chancellor of the university of Lagos in an interview with news men has stated that the University of Lagos is yet to announce any procedure for screening of candidates in the 2016/2017 session as the university is waiting for guidelines from the government.

According to him,”We are yet to conclude because government has asked us to stay action and wait for a guideline before deciding on the mode of screening, but definitely there will be screening,” he said.

He urged UNILAG prospective students to regularly visit the website for updates.

Commenting on the admission exercise for 2016/2017, the Deputy Registrar, Information Unit, Mr Toyin Adebule, told bewsmen that during the 2016 UTME registration, no fewer than 60,000 candidates applied for admission in UNILAG, which can accommodate only a little over 7,000.

quote]Their some ways shy guys stylishly use to express their feelings to their crush.

They're afraid of telling their crush face to face that he loves her.Their only fear is that "What if she slaps me infront of people".*Lol*

3. Sending Her Lots Of Recharge Cards

If you notice a guy sending you recharge cards simultaneously, don't think because you're his friend. That's the way of him saying he loves you. They do send recharge cards simultaneously to their crush so that she might be conscious of his feelings towards her.

They don't care about the money or time that it might consume to help her do her assignment or project. No random guy will just walk into you and say "lemme help you with your project"...

5. Turn Themselves Into MTN Network

Robbers Attack FUTMINA Student With Cutlass (Photo) - Crime

A 100 level student of Federal university of Technology Minna, Niger state was attacked by thieves yesterday who tried to rob him by using cutlass on him. .. almost the same thing happened when two 100level students were coming back from school yesterday night around 11pm when one of them almost got stabbed but luckily for the student the operation wasn't successful.

These thieves have been robbing students of Futminna right from time especially those in Bosso campus living off campus but it's getting worse now.. these guys ain't joking anymore... is either they come inside the lodge when everyone is asleep or they stop you on the road and they'll make sure you drop whatever gadgets you have with you or else you'll be injured seriously.

I hope the management of Federal university of Technology Minna, Niger State and the Niger state government takes necessary action. This is unbearable .

Sending Money To Parents Back Home - Family

(0) (1) (Reply) (Follow) (Go Down)
Sending Money To Parents Back Home by yagganess: 7:41pm
my wife's father is late and mother is alive. Both my parents are still alive.

we want to work out how much money to send to the parents each month and the problem is she wants to send the same amount both ways. My issue with that is if we send the same amount both ways then one side will need to split the amount between 2 people, yet the other side is one person.

I feel that to make it fair we need to to send by person rather than the side of family. This way each parent gets the same amount of money

what are your thoughts

Relatives Turning Us Into Their World Bank - Family -

I have been with my husband for a while now and I can say we have been doing well for ourselves. But i have a problem with some relatives that are turning us into their atm machine. My husband has an uncle who has always had other people taking care of his children (5children from 3 different women) for him whilst he goes out to enjoy himself without a care in the world.

Last year my in laws asked us to take in one of his daughters so she could go to school in the city. I was hesitant at first since i did not know much about her or the father, but eventually I warmed up to the idea. Fast forward 6months later, I am sick and tired of it. She does not do her homework without being forced and sometimes she skips school. I have already been called 3times by her teacher making complaints about her attitude in class and her perfomance. If you do not dig for her homework from her bag she will not do it. This girl is already 11 and she is only in grade 4 and she bed-wets.

I do not usually resort to beating a child because I have told myself that should be the last resort, but at the same time I am tired of buying things for her because she is always destroying them. She will wear her best clothes to go play with mud outside and she has turned her school shoes in slippers. She is always losing her stationery and she has torn 2 of her school uniforms already. She once broke the toilet and we had to get a new (not toilet seat, i mean the actual damn toilet) and she broke the plasma in the living room barely 5months after we got it.

As if she is not a big enough headache, her father always finds himself in my house almost every month and he will not leave until you compensate him for coming to your house uninvited. Of course he will expect you to give him money and groceries to take home.

Everything has been frustrating my husband as well and he is considering taking the girl back to her father's house as soon as schools closes and to be honest i really do not have a problem with that, but my issue is that his family is against the idea because its not a christian thing to do (1Timothy 5v8)

To those who have been in the same situation, how did you resolve it amicably and where did you draw the line?

When A Girl Says She Does Not Have A Boyfriend - Romance -

You and I know whenever a girl says she doesnt have a boyfriend, she is not saying the truth (in most cases). Almost every Naija girl say this or keep mum about their relationship status whenver you ask them, cos its only few girls that are sure of their partners and where their relationship are headed (altar bound)...while others are simply floating & not so sure of whom they are with. That's why most girls who have partners, sometimes claim they are not in a relationship (don't have a boyfriend) whenever they're meeting a new guy. Some of them say or do this, if the person they are dating is not that committed. And in such situations, they might be tempted to try their luck with another guy. There are those who also find it difficult to boast of having a partner in public when they actually have one. This could be due to the same reason or probably cos the guy is not capable enough (financially or emotionally wise)...That's why I advise guys to always show some level of commitment whenever they are in a serious relationship. That's what most girls want. It's only a confused girl that would have a committed guy/relationship, and still be cheating or misbehaving...Love is commitment. And commitment is honorable. To Naija girls, seeing is believing!

Roy Hodgson Resig

Happening now. The man has thrown in the towel. After the loss to iceland

Roy Hodgson confirms he is to leave his post following #ENG's exit from #Euro2016.

Roy Hodgson has left his post as England manager following the national team’s shock 2-1 defeat to Iceland in their Euro 2016 last-16 tie on Monday evening.

Hodgson’s decision to quit comes as no surprise following England’s loss to a country competing at their first major tournament and with a population of just 329,000 – comparable to Coventry.

The coaches Ray Lewington and Gary Neville have also left the Football Association.

“I’m extremely disappointed of course about tonight’s result and ultimately our exit from the competition,” Hodgson said. “We haven’t progressed as far as I thought we were capable of, and that’s obviously not acceptable.

“I’m actually proud of the work my coaching staff and I have achieved over our time at the helm of England. The transition from the squad whose average age was 30 to now being the youngest in the tournament is both remarkable and exciting for the future of English football. I would have loved to stay on for another two years.

“However, I am pragmatic and I know we are in the results business. My contract was always up after the Euros, so now is the time for someone else to oversee the progress of this young, hungry and extremely talented group of players. They have been fantastic and have done everything that has been asked of them. When I arrived I was told players didn’t turn up to play for their country or that they pulled out at the last minute. I have not seen any of that. These players love to play for their country and their commitment has been unquestioned.

“Ray and Gary arrived with me as part of my coaching team and will leave with me. I’d like to thank them for their dedicated support and for the major part they’ve played in our team preparation. Finally I’d like to thank all the support start, players, the FA and of course the fans. It’s been a fantastic journey, these four years, and it’s one I’ll look back on or remember with pride.

“Finally I’d like to thank the media for the support you’ve given me over the four years. I’m sorry it’s had to end this way with another exit from the tournament. These things happen. All I can do is wish everybody all the very best and hope that you will still be able to see an Egland team in a final of a major tournamenet fairly soon. We’ve been unable to deliver. Thank you very much.”

Stop begging, start dialogue, militants tell Buhari

Bello Oboko joins call for referendum

Ijaw not involved in Ogun, Lagos attacks by militants — IYC

By Emma Amaize, Egufe Yafugborhi & Perez Brisibe

WARRI—NIGER-DELTA Sea Commandos, NDSC, a militant group, in the Niger Delta, yesterday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to discontinue his pretentious plea to militants to cease bombing oil and gas facilities and commence dialogue with stakeholders to avert looming disaster.

Spokesperson of the group, self-styled Major Osama Blatter, in a statement, said: “As members of Sea Commandos, we cannot take Buhari’s plea serious and we are running out of patience. The issue is when he will start his dialogue.”

Militants and Buhari
This came as Niger Delta activist, Chief  Bello Oboko, threw his weight behind the call on President Buhari to emulate the Prime Minister of Britain, David Cameron, by ordering a referendum to find out what Nigerians want.

The Sea Commandos asked: “When will Nigeria grant Niger Delta autonomous state? Buhari should not play politics with Niger Delta’s demands. If he plays with us, we will ground his government. Delay is dangerous. We are not interested in any plea.

“Who told Buhari that Nigerians do not have other country than Nigeria? Niger Deltans are not part of Nigeria he is referring to because we belong to Niger Delta Republic.

“Buhari should lead the negotiation team, we want him in the creeks, Buhari should not expect our oil to stabilize Nigerians economy, that is a thing of the past. Since he came back, we have not heard anything from him about the expired two-week ceasefire, he has not announced any extension, which is why we say that he is pretending.  We are warning that we can no longer wait, we will commence attack any moment from now,” it added.

Oboko backs referendum

Meanwhile, Ijaw leader, Dr Oboko, in a statement, said: “This is to appreciate Buhari on his commendation to the British Prime Minister David Cameron on the occasion of United Kingdom, voting to leave European Union, democratically without necessarily applying British Jumbo fighter jets last seen put to use in Libya.

“Referendum to peacefully re-make Nigeria like EU is most attractive, recommendable to redressing the Niger Delta national challenge.

“This is, therefore, to appeal to President Buhari to replicate the British example against military option by adopting the in-out voting democracy to peacefully fix the Niger Delta national challenge at last,” Oboko said.

Buhari should develop N-Delta, says Meinbutus

In a related development, the Amananaowei of Meinbutus, King Jerry Prebor, has asked President Buhari to, as matter of necessity, “roll out the bulldozers and caterpillars to start construction of riverine road and train network in the Niger Delta region.

“He should also commence implementation of the 2014 National Confab report. Mr. President should see himself as President of Nigeria and as such, do what is right to put Nigeria on the world map,” Prebor added.

IYC condemns attacks in Lagos, Ogun

In addition, the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has disassociated Ijaw people from the attacks and killing of innocent Nigerians in Lagos and Ogun states by criminal elements, describing the killings as “purely criminal.”

In a statement, yesterday, IYC spokesperson, Mr. Eric Omare, said: “We state clearly that the persons carrying out these criminal attacks are not Ijaw people and it is absolutely wrong  to refer to them as Ijaw militants. The sensational headlines and impression been created is that it is Ijaw people or groups that are carrying out organized attacks and killing of people in some Lagos and Ogun communities.

"Christians Should Apologise To Gays" - Pope Francis - Religion

Aboard the Papal Plane (CNN)Pope Francis said Sunday that Christians owe apologies to gays and others who have been offended or exploited by the church, remarks that some Catholics hailed as a breakthrough in the church's tone toward homosexuality.

"I repeat what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says: that they must not be discriminated against, that they must be respected and accompanied pastorally," Francis said at a press conference aboard the papal plane returning from Armenia.
"The Church must ask forgiveness for not behaving many times -- when I say the Church, I mean Christians! The Church is holy, we are sinners!"
As he often does during unscripted moments -- particularly papal news conferences -- the Pope spoke expansively, saying the church should seek forgiveness for a number of historical slights committed in its name.

Groundbreaking Moment

"I believe that the church not only should apologize to the person who is gay whom it has offended," he added, "but has to apologize to the poor, to exploited women, to children exploited for labor; it has to ask forgiveness for having blessed many weapons."
The Rev. James Martin, a Jesuit priest and editor at large of America magazine, called the Pope's apology to gays and lesbians "a groundbreaking moment."
"While St. John Paul II apologized to several groups in 2000 -- the Jewish people, indigenous peoples, immigrants and women, among them -- no pope has ever come close to apologizing to the LGBT community. And the Pope is correct of course. First, because forgiveness is an essential part of the Christian life. And second, because no group feels more marginalized in the church today than LGBT people."

The Pope's comments came in response to a question about a German Cardinal who said the Catholic Church should apologize for being "very negative" about gays. The Pope was also asked whether Christians bear some blame for hatred toward the LGBT community, as horrifically demonstrated in the Orlando massacre at a gay night club that killed 49 people on June 12.

Repeating the teaching of the Catechism of the Catholic Church about respecting and not discriminating against gays, Pope Francis said that one could condemn certain behavior.
"One can condemn, but not for theological reasons, but for reasons of political behavior...Certain manifestations are a bit too offensive for others, no?
"But these are things that have nothing to do with the problem. The problem is a person that has a condition, that has good will and who seeks God, who are we to judge? And we must accompany them well."
'Immense Blessing'
Francis first uttered that rhetorical question -- Who am I to judge gay people? -- in 2013, also during a news conference on the papal plane. His comments were hailed as a breakthrough for a church that has historically condemned homosexuality, often in harsh terms. Francis has not changed church doctrine that calls homosexual acts sinful, but he has shown a more merciful approach to people on the margins, including gays and lesbians.
Francis DeBernardo, executive director of New Ways Ministry, a Catholic gay rights group, called the Pope's remarks "an immense blessing of healing."
"No pope has said more welcoming words to LGBT people than when Pope Francis today offered his recommendation that the Church -- indeed all Christians -- should apologize for the harm religious traditions have caused to LGBT people. The pope's statement was simple, yet powerful, and it fell from his lips so easily."

As is often the case, the Pope's press conference encompassed a number of controversial questions. Here are the Pope's answers about Brexit, former Pope Benedict XVI and why he used the word "genocide" to describe the murder of more than 1 million Armenians in the early 20th century.
